Meet the Brewer(s) - so many brewers
Is there a collective noun for a group of brewers? A mischief? A barrel? Those are just some nouns for animals I found on a dictionary website.
In this weeks newsletter:
Come and meet the brewer(s) at Burghfest
Bingham’s reborn
Oktoberfest’s Coment (I need your recommendations in the comments)
I’m really excited about this. When I became unemployed I had vision’s of a little side hustle presenting things. I’ve done podcasts, I’ve done presentations to large groups of people.
Felt like something worth aiming for particularly as a) I enjoy it and b) my mum said she thought I was quite good.
Never did I imagine that anyone would actually ask me to present something though. But that’s what’s happened and now on Saturday 23rd September 2023 I will be hosting the Burghfest 2023 MEET THE BREWER session from midday until 2pm.
I went last year to the session and there were a lot of brewers there. It was great to talk to them individually, but I am currently sourcing a microphone and amplifier so everyone can hear us!
It’s also fallen upon me to organise the brewers to come along. So if you are of a mind on Facebook and would like to come along you can jump on this event. You can also just find out more about Burghfest itself here.
Burghfest is a ticketed event that raises £1,000s upon £1,000s for Thames Valley Air Ambulance every year and is a wonderful event. I’ve been going a few years and it really is worth jumping on the 2/2a bus out of the Little Smoke that is Reading and joining me.
Bingham’s reborn?
The demise of Bingham’s Brewery was felt keenly by a lot of us. What went on I don’t really know - but I do know some absolutely stonking beers were lost to us.
Personally it was Space Hoppy that really got me motoring down the real ale and craft beer route. Vanilla Stout was sensational and I had a real soft spot for the Hot Dog Chilli Stout although I know I was in the minority on that one.
I think I’m stretching the truth a little to say ‘Bingham’s reborn’ (we can dream of course) but it was lovely to see Chris had been brewing again - over at Sherfield Village Brewery.
By the time you get this it might all be gone, but a trip to The Alehouse would be worth a punt for Doddle Vanilla Stout which has been brewed for Chris’ 50th birthday.
Come back to us Chris!
Oktoberfest’s cometh
There are plenty of Oktoberfest events coming up in the next month or so. And a number of our local breweries have brewed suitable accompanying beers to celebrate the season.
I’ll pull together a list of events and a list of brews for next weeks email BUT I’d love it if you’d share your favourite German style beers in the comments. Links to where you can buy them as well are very welcome.
